Before the summer can begin, you have to get here first. If you’ve never worked at Falling Creek, you might be wondering how exactly you get to camp. This blog will share the GPS address (different from our mailing/shipping addresses!), driving directions, instructions for flying, and other tips to make your arrival as smooth as possible.
Falling Creek Camp is located in Tuxedo, North Carolina. When you drive in on Highway 25, you’ll take Exit 3, for Green River road. You can use the Google Maps link to get driving directions from anywhere to Falling Creek Camp. You can also use the step by step driving directions from nearby major cities listed on our main site here.
Use this address for your GPS: 2900 Green River Road Zirconia, North Carolina 28790
Please note, this is not our shipping or mailing address, it is only the physical location of our entrance for GPS directions.
No matter how you get to Exit 3 off Highway 25, our main entrance will be on your left off Green River Road. On the day you arrive, the gate will be open so you’ll enter and cross Green River using the covered bridge.
Turn left and follow the signs for Falling Creek, through the Green River Flats. You’ll drive next to the horse pasture, and turn left up the mountain continuing to follow the log and flame signs the whole way up.
Don’t forget to admire the waterfall view here on your way up!
The gravel driveway may seem long, but you’re going the right way. Camp is on a private mountain top, so though the road is meandering, the views at the top are worth it. Just drive slow and steady as you continue up. It may take about 10 minutes from the bridge all the way to the top, so when you’re planning your arrival time, add 10 minutes to whatever the GPS says.
After the waterfall field you’ll continue climbing up the road for several minutes until it flattens out. There you’ll see the first intersection, where you’ll follow signs to stay right, and continue straight on the gravel road.
You’ll pass the barn on your right. Next you’ll pass Moab, the mountain bike hut. Soon after will be the overlook, a beautiful view of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and the Green River valley off to your right.
Continue straight, and when you reach the Falling Creek sign, one of our directors will be waiting to welcome you. They’ll direct you down to the left, where you’ll follow the road and make the second right into the Dining Hall parking lot.
There will be more directors here to show you where to park. Returning staff will also be here to walk you to your cabin. Some staff will be moving into their cabins in the Samara line, which is where counselors who don’t live with campers will be staying. If you’re a cabin counselor, we’ll walk with you under the dining hall and across the bridge to the camper cabin areas.
The closest airports are Asheville, NC (AVL) and Greenville-Spartanburg, SC (GSP). The Asheville airport is about 25 minutes away and the Greenville-Spartanburg airport is about 55 minutes away, but it is the larger of the two. Someone from camp will be in touch with you about airport pickups, and will meet you after your flight to drive you (and any other staff arriving at a similar time) to Falling Creek.
In your WorkBright account, you’ll find a travel form to fill out that indicates how you are planning to arrive at camp. It is very important to fill this out, so we know when and where we should go to pick you up.
Typically we suggest that you have a carry-on bag with a change of clothes, towel, swimsuit, and toiletry items in the event of delayed luggage. Please check airline policies on acceptable carry-on items (including liquids).
Though it is not necessary to do so, most campers ship their trunks or large baggage to camp ahead of time for convenience. Please see this page for detailed information on shipping luggage if you choose to do so.
Once you arrive on the mountain, staff who don’t live with campers will go straight to their cabins in the Samara Line.
For camper cabin counselors, the cabin you stay in during Staff Orientation won’t be the same as the cabin you’ll be in with campers. Instead, several staff will share a cabin to get to know each other better in the first week. After Staff Orientation, you and your co-counselor will move into the cabin you’ll live in for the session with your campers.
On the first day there will be a bit of time to get settled, but soon we’ll be meeting at Morning Watch (the benches by the upper lake) for the welcome meeting to kick off Staff Orientation.
From there, the summer fun can begin! If you have any questions about getting to camp, please email Staff Director Jeff Killebrew (). We are so excited for you to arrive at Falling Creek soon.
