10 Things to Remember Before Staff Orientation

Welcome to Camp!

We’re excited to have you joining us on the mountain this summer, and can’t believe Staff Orientation starts next week!

To help with final reminders as you make your preparations and finish packing, we’ve compiled a list of 10 things to remember before Staff Orientation. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to

  • 1.) Make sure your travel plans are ready to go. Double check your flight information to confirm the arrival time, and make sure you’ve planned accordingly. You’ll need to fill out the travel form in your Workbright account so we know when and where to pick you up from the airport.
  • 2.) Related to flying, don’t forget that the Real ID laws are now in effect. All US Citizens need to have a Real ID to board a domestic flight in the US. If you don’t have a Real ID, you can also use a passport. Here’s an article listing 5 Things You Need to Know About Real IDs.
  • 3.) If you’re driving, check your car’s gas tank/oil/tire pressure/etc. before starting the trip to camp. Watch the “how to get to camp video,” on the Couch to Camp site under “4 Weeks To Go”. You can also check out this blog for written directions.
  • 4.) Did you pack everything? Marisa often says that shoes and medication are the top two things you don’t want to forget. You can use the packing lists on our main website, or this blog post, to help you remember everything.
  • 5.) Remind your friends and family of your limited cell phone usage this summer. Share camp’s mailing address so they can know where to send you letters! This blog post has tips for staying in touch, as well as the addresses to send letters or packages to camp.
  • 6.) Do you have any overdue forms to finish? This blog post has all the direct links to the forms that need to be completed prior to arriving, including the what, why, and how to fill out the forms.
  • 7.) Did you watch all the EOT (Expert Online Training) videos? This is part of your pre-arrival forms, but it’s worth mentioning again that all the videos need to be watched before arriving at camp for Staff Orientation. You can find them here.
  • 8.) Put the camp office number in your phone in case you need to contact Falling Creek on your way to camp: 828-692-0262. You can find additional contact information, including Yates and Marisa’s phone numbers, on this page.
  • 9.) Join us for one final “Live Q&A” on Discord! Zach will be hosting a chat session on Wednesday, May 21st from 4-5pm EST for any last minute questions, or another chance to get to know each other before arriving at camp.
  • 10.) Remember that this will be a memorable and fun summer, and you’ll make a difference in the lives of so many. It’s normal to feel nervous if you’ve never worked at camp before. You have what it takes, and we’re here to support you!
